Monster Prom
Dating Sim; Queer Romance; Fantasy; Single Player/Multiplayer; Download-Only
TW: sexual content, violence, genocide
It’s almost time for prom— and you need a date! Play as one of four adorable playable characters (you choose name + pronouns) on a quest to get one of your six least horrible high-school classmates to go out with you. Oh, also, you’re all monsters. Literally. Have fun! (This game is hilarious in a very Gen-Z way, and absolutely NOT SFW.)
OXENFREE
Historical; Supernatural; Mystery; Adventure; Indie; Narrative First-Person; Download-Only
TW: death, suicide, drug/alcohol use, sexual references
Player Character Alex and some of her classmates (including best friend Ren and new step-brother Jonas) are spending the night on Edwards Island, a senior-year tradition. Unfortunately, their night is interrupted by some increasingly bizarre radio phenomena, which only get worse as the characters reflect on the tragedies of the past... (This game is seriously spooky, and you will need to play multiple times for the full experience.)
the arcana: A mystic romance
Dating Sim; Queer Romance; Fantasy; Visual Novel; For Mobile
TW: mild sexual content, violence, dark themes
You are an apprentice to the magician Asra in the city of Vesuvia. It's been three years since Count Lucio, the city's ruler, was found dead in his palace during the annual Masquerade festival... and an ominous energy seems to be building in the city. Between visits from Countess Nadia and the mysterious Doctor Devorak, you are charged with finding the Count's murderer... a task that may take you into some of the city's darkest secrets.
This visual novel has six romance paths that take you through different storylines depending on which character you choose to pursue. It has quite a lovely soundtrack (with lots of Fair Use music), and an absolutely beautiful illustration style. Moving through the paths requires spending Keys, a resource which replenishes itself over time, but Nix Hydra, the game company, hosts quite a number of Infinikey weekends where you can read as much as you'd like in a short time without hitting a "paywall."
Kentuckyroute zero
Historical; Fantasy; Surrealist; Point-and-Click; Download-Only
TW: I honestly haven't played far enough to know
This game is gorgeous, and an incredible criticism of capitalism, bureaucracy, and the way that America tends to forget its rural edges. I honestly can't do justice to it with a description.
2064: read only memories
Mystery; Sci-Fi/Cyberpunk; LGBTQ+; Choice-Based; Download-Only
TW: mild sexual content, violence/blood/death, systematic oppression
It's the year 2064, in the city of Neo-San Francisco. Personal assistant robots called ROMs are commonplace, and there's controversy occurring around hybrids, humans who've undergone gene therapy involving non-human DNA. You're a small-time journalist who gets roped into a grand and dangerous mystery when a sentient ROM named Turing turns up at your apartment...
We know the devil
Visual Novel; Indie; Horror; Fantasy; LGBTQ+; Choice-Based; Download-Only
TW: Bullying, (religious) queerphobia, alcohol use
Three teenagers are in their last week at a Religious camp where Summer Scouts are sent to protect themselves against the devil. But the devil is certainly already here. And in groups of three, someone is always left out... (This game is heavily philosophical and deals with some weighty themes. It’s also very short to play.)
DREAM daddy
Dating Sim; Queer Romance; Slice-of-Life; Family; Visual Novel; Download-Only
TW: mild sexual content, violence (maybe), drug/alcohol use
You play as the father to 18-year-old Amanda Ann, with whom you have just moved to a new neighborhood. You interact with (and date!!) the other dads in the area. You can be trans, gay or bi, and can date one of a variety of diverse, lovely men.
Also, there really IS a lot of parenting content. The “daddy” thing isn’t just a joke. There is a heavy focus on your relationship with your daughter. It is aggressively wholesome.
Night in the woods
Mystery; Historical; Indie; Narrative First-Person; Adventure; Coming-of-Age; Download-Only
TW: murder, violence, dissociation
You play as Mae Borowski, a 20-year-old who’s just dropped out of college and returned to her rural hometown of Possum Springs. It seems like maybe nobody's that excited to see her, between her old bandmates and other acquaintances from around town-- and her bizarre dreams certainly aren't helping matters. This game is a love letter to mentally ill teens and mining communities; autumn and old friendships.
